This surgical procedure consists of increasing the volume of the chin region, when there is a deficiency in the form and volume of the said chin. This deficiency usually occurs from birth, and confers a sad aspect to the face. With some frequency, this surgery is performed simultaneously with rhinoplasty (when the latter is indicated).
It is possible to increase and recreate the shape of the chin, by placing a soft silicone gel implant, through a cut or incision inside the mouth, in front of the bridle of the lower lip.
The size of the soft silicone gel implant is proportional to the degree of chin deficiency. Chin augmentation surgery can be performed at any age, above the age of 18.
It is strictly ambulatory and is usually performed under local anesthesia, or local anesthesia and sedation.
The procedure is done through a small cut or incision inside the mouth, in the middle portion of the cheek. This greasy compartment, preventing proper definition of facial angles, is removed.
The disability is minimal, and the impact is usually limited to an inflammation of the chin area. During the first days after surgery, local application of cold can significantly decrease this inflammation.
It is not associated with the presence of bruises, as in other facial surgeries, and is minimally painful.
As with other surgeries, the end results to establish the procedure benefits, are appreciated towards the 4th week after surgery. It is not associated with the presence of bruises, as in other facial surgeries, and is minimally painful.
